The 2012 season is sure to bring some new and exciting memories for our Trojans. Realignment has reared its head and now the Trojans find themselves in a new region with some new region mates. This edition of realignment brought in a new classification (AAAAAA). With the addition of the new class, several teams have found themselves on the move. Last years region 2AAA is no more. The majority of those teams have moved up to AAAA. Only Peach County and Central of Macon remain in the old region 2AAA. Enrollment numbers dictate our Trojans as AAA and despite the urge to play up with our familiar foes, our athletic director decided to play where the GHSA Reclassification Committee placed us.
Added to this new 2AAA region will be perennial powerhouse Carver of Columbus, Henry County, Jackson, Pike County and Southwest of Macon, who is making the jump from AA.
Looking at the history of the newcomers to 2AAA, perhaps our Trojans are smiling. Peach County's all time record against our new region mates is 18-3-2 (.731). Hopefully these historical facts translate into a good season for the 2012 Trojans.
Opening the game on offense, it appeared that Peach County was headed for it's best offensive showing of the season. The Trojans drove down the field on its opening drive with relative ease. Peach County's opening drive was capped off by a Kentel Kendrick 1-yard plunge. Peach County 7 Burke County 0. The Trojan Nation was ecstatic.
Now it was the "Black Hat" defense's turn to get a feel for this high powered running game of Burke County. As we were accustomed to seeing, the "Black Hat" defense showed up to play. Very few yards were yielded to Burke County and their power running game.
The second quarter yielded Peach County's second score of the game. With 2 defenders draped all over him Robinson caught a pass in the corner of the end zone. Peach County 14 Burke County 0.
Burke County did however manage to add a score just before halftime. With a missed extra point: Peach County 14 Burke County 6.
Definitely a game of two halves. Burke County came out the second half with a hunger and an intensity that our Trojans just could not match. After consecutive 3 and outs by our offense, our defense, staying on the field entirely too long, was beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
Burke County took advantage of this and score 28 unanswered points. Not the usual number of points this team is accustomed to scoring but enough to claim the AAA title.
Our Trojans had a magnificent season. They were written off by almost everyone outside of the Trojan Nation. They hard work and dedication to excellence will carry them a long ways.
Thanks for a wonderful season.
This is the big one. All of the talk has been done. All of the chest thumping has been done. Now it's time for 48 minutes of Peach County football. Let me tell you Trojan Nation. Any team worth their grain of salt expects to play in this game every year. This will be Peach County's 2nd trip in three years. Make no mistake about it, we are where 100's of teams desire to be this time of year.
Ironically enough, this will be the first meeting ever between these two programs.
Burke County comes into this game with a 13-1 overall record. Burke County punched it's ticket to the championship game with a convincing 63-28 semi-final win over Gainesville. The Bears racked up an amazing 530 yards of offense - all on the ground. As you can see, with Burke County it's offense - offense - offense. Burke County's defense has had it's shining moments as well. Burke County is averaging 45.0 points a game while surrendering only 12.0 points a game. Interesting to note that as amazing as their offensive production was in the semi-final game, they still managed to allow Gainesville to post some pretty gaudy numbers as well. The Red Elephants put up 425 yards of offense, including 307 through the air on 29 of 50 passing.
Peach County comes into this game with a 13-1 overall record. Peach County punched it's ticket to the championship game with a stellar defensive performance against Cairo. For Peach County, DEFENSE is the name of the game; and tons of it. In their semi-final win, Peach County held the high-powered Cairo offense to 7.0 points and a little under 200 yards of total offense. Peach County is averaging 25.0 points per game while surrendering 9.0 points per game. Not as potent as previous year, this Peach County offense can still score from anywhere on the field. Peach County's offense has serious big play ability.
I encourage The Trojan Nation to get there early so that we can cheer for our guys as they walk out of the tunnel.
Don't forget your Trojan Nation shakers and towels.
LET'S BRING THAT CHAMPIONSHIP HOME.
